LEED Gold Awarded June 2018
The most recent significant addition to Grand Rapids’ downtown health campus, Finkelstein Hall is the newest facility for Grand Valley State University, the leading supplier of health-care professionals in the region, and will support 20 programs in the nursing and health professions in the health sciences programs. With 16 teaching laboratories and 90 faculty and staff offices, the building will provide a home for occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, speech-language pathology, sonography, public health, and allied health programs.
LEED has been the building sustainability standard for GVSU since 2004. To reach LEED Gold, Finkelstein Hall has achieved measurable performance in systems commissioning, energy use optimization (26% below LEED baseline); potable water use optimization (40% below LEED baseline); site optimization (use of existing transportation systems and community connectivity); using no CFC-based refrigerants, installing sustainable materials (recycled content, regional procurement, sustainably harvested wood, minimized volatile organic compounds, low-emitting materials) and use of green housekeeping practices.
