Enterprise Green Communities

Located right in the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids, MI across from Heartside Park and the Downtown Market, 240 Ionia Avenue Apartments was envisioned to provide residents with a durable, affordable and aesthetically pleasing home that was designed and constructed to limit its impact on the environment and provide a healthy indoor environment for its residents. To ensure that this was attained, the project pursued and achieved Enterprise Green Communities (EGC) certification. EGC’s mission is to create opportunities for low- and moderate-income households through affordable housing in diverse, thriving communities. The criterion outlined by the EGC certification protocol is the only national framework for building and preserving green affordable housing.

This designation identifies buildings that have taken a leadership role in implementing green building strategies. Green-building strategies help protect the health of our natural eco-systems and preserve natural resources. Indoor Air Quality was protected during and after construction, so occupants can breathe easily. An energy-saving heating and cooling system means the residents spend less money on utility bills. And the location of the building in an established neighborhood near mass transit and a variety of services improves the quality of life for all who call this green building home.
